Hebrews 12 : 5b-6 states,
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He punishes everyone He accepts as a son.”
Discipline and punishment out of love–we who work as teachers, mentors, or play a role as parents must understand this term.
It is not love if one sugarcoats everything so that the one he is responsible with is comfortable.
God’s power is limited in our comfort zone. Very much so.
As in Matthew 6 : 48, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” ; to beperfect undermines a process that we are to undergo. We are still trapped in our flesh, however, do not be satisfied with what human eyes can see. Godly standard is in play here.
God will discipline us, rebuke us due to love. In a way our flesh perceive as uncomfortable.
However, we got to differ the rebuke from God and from the world.
2 Corinthians 7:10 says, “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”
Matthew 11:30, “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
His rebuke result in repentance and molding of more Christ-like character.
And until we complete the test He give us, He will not stop giving us similar tests again and again. He wants us that badly to receive our lesson.
He loves us that much.
